Today I got to go for a ride! It was just a short one, but it did feel great to be on the bike again. This is only the fourth ride I’ve done since Pacific Crest. I chose a route that included roads I’ve ridden lots before, but combined in a different way. It wasn’t a big change, but it still made a refreshing difference. I felt good while riding too. It feels like my basic fitness is carrying over well from the marathon training to the bike, although I did feel a bit weak going up hill, so my ability to generate force may not be what it was before.

Tonight, after work, I went through the first upper body strength training session coach prescribed to me. Since this is my first time through, and I haven’t done strength training like this in a couple of years, I started out slowly, using the lightest resistance tube and dumbells I have. Most of the work focused on my shoulders, but there was also some general work for my chest, arms, and back. It wasn’t too hard, but I was pretty fatigued by the end, and I’m sure as I add more sets and weights things will get more difficult. I stretched regularly during this, stretching the muscles I just worked between exercises, and spent some time at the end stretching out as well.

Today’s Numbers

Riding: 9.15 miles, 0.59 hours, 14.9 mph average speed

Strength training/stretching: 0.69 hours
